Chankanaab National Park
Chankanaab, which means "small sea," has something for everyone: a saltwater lagoon, an archaeological park, and a botanical garden with reproductions of a Mayan village and Olmec, Toltec, Aztec, and Mayan stone carvings scattered throughout. The waters off the beach are calm and swimmable. Snorkelers and divers can explore underwater caverns, a sunken shipwreck with barnacle-covered cannons and anchors, and a sculpture of “la Virgen del Mar (Virgin of the Sea).”
