HISTORY
" Cozumel is an eclectic mixture of the traditional past and
progressive modern times. It has managed to maintain a laidback and
relaxed pace of yesterday's Mexico, yet it offers all the services
of larger and modern destinations.
" Cozumel is actually a Mayan word, it is derived from the mayan
word "Cuzamil" which means -Land of the Swallows- (birds
that migrate every year during spring season).
" The main attraction in Cozumel are its reefs. World famous
for their coral formations which all together make the second largest
reef wall in the world.
" Some of the best points of interest in Cozumel are The Museum
of the Island of Cozumel, this museum exhibits the history of the
island, its flora and fauna.
" There are several mayan ruins around the island, the best ones
are San Gervasio, El Cedral, El Mirador, La tumba del caracol and
The Lighthouse of Punta Celarain on the southern tip of the island.
